Monday 6th July -
"Gemini" Species Hunt - Dave Harrison, who charters his very
popular and successful big bright orange Blyth 33 catamaran, "Gemini",
out of Dartmouth, spent his day yesterday, with a party of anglers from
South Wales, who wanted to enjoy a hunt on the inshore reefs for as many
species as they could catch. It was evidently a great success.
Well done Dave and the lads. Here's what Dave Emailed:
We enjoyed a great day out on Sunday 5th
July, species hunting on the reefs and anchored up for Bull Huss.
The boys are all regulars aboard
"Gemini". Most of them are members of Pontypool SAC, who changed
their intended trip from Conger, to a reef trip.
The top two rods were "Rockey" and
"Peanut", with seven species each. Rockey's final fish came in
when I called time. I've never seen anyone so pleased to see a
Dogfish.
it was a shame the poor weather forced us
to leave one of the reefs, as the count would have been even more.

HOW ABOUT A NEW IN-SHORE SPECIES
HUNT COMPETITION FOR ANGLERS ON CHARTER BOATS?
Mike Concannon Commented:
Two different local charter Skippers have
already contacted me early this morning, to ask if I would organise a
mid-Week two-day competition out of Dartmouth, amongst various charter
boats, as a species hunt on the local in-shore reefs and wrecks, within
say 20 miles of Dartmouth, perhaps out to the 6 mile limit
Each specie would be awarded pre-determined points and
anglers would be permitted to catch up to perhaps 5 or 10 fish of the
listed species each day. The "Skipper" would keep a list of the
points against species caught for each angler, which would allow fish
which are not wanted for an angler's home table, to be returned alive
and well after being recorded.
I reckon this could be a great success. It would
demand skill allied to versatility from both the "Skippers" and the
"Anglers".
We want to keep it straightforward, without excessive
complications, so that the event can be really good fun for all
involved, without top heavy administration.
If you are interested in taking part, either as a
Charter Skipper, or as an "Angler", or potential "Sponsor" or have any
views as to how you would like to see it organised, please drop an Email
to
mike@fishingdartmouth.co.uk so that we can develop the idea to a
successful conclusion.
We might even be able to arrange a drink and a bite to
eat with an informal presentation evening for all who take part.
If enough people are seriously interested we will get
this off the ground before the end of this season.
